Special features regarding teaching

Where teaching is concerned, we place great emphasis on a practical education at the interface between technology and business. Our students are optimally prepared for their future careers, e.g. technical problems are investigated in cooperation with companies or operational decision-making processes are simulated. With numerous options, students are able to set individual specialities in the course of their studies. High-quality laboratories enable them to have a modern, agile and creative learning environment.

Special features regarding the international orientation

There are worldwide partnerships with international universities that are supported by various programmes. Students are supported individually in the planning and organisation of their studies or work placements by the International Office. This prepares them for the global job market, as do the offers from internationalisation@home, e.g. summer schools in English, language tandems, workshops on building intercultural competence and leisure activities with fellow students from abroad, such as the International Dinner or day trips.

Exchange universities for stay abroads

Christlijke Hogeschool Ede, Ede,Niederlande; Hochschule Luzern für Technik und Architektur, Luzern,Schweiz; Kristianstad University,Kristianstad, Schweden; Universidad del País Vasco San Sebastián, Spanien; Universidad Adolfo Ibanez, Chile; Christ University, Bangalore, Indien; ITSON Universidad,Sonora, Mexico; Ecole Nationale d'Ingenieurs de Tarbes, Tarbes, Frankreich; FAE Business School, Curitiba, Brasilien, La Sabana, Chia-Bogotá, Seinäjoen Ammattikorkeakoulu, Seinäjoki University of Applied Sciences, Finnland

Special features regarding the equipment

In technical labs, students are trained on cutting-edge machinery and equipment, e.g. metal 3D printers, simulation surgeries and high-quality spectroscopes and microscopes. The campus also offers a high-tech prototype workshop for creative students. Students have access to free WiFi and PC clusters. Numerous databases such as WISO, Statista, Perinorm (DIN, VDI), Nexis, OECD iLibrary, lynda, Web of Science and AccessEngineering assist in academic work and offer services such as statistics, e-learning, economic data and standards.

Special features regarding research activities

Research and development projects are funded directly by industry or by public third-party funding bodies. Students actively participate in this. In project seminars, they take on research tasks in small groups that they carry out directly with and at companies. This way, they immediately apply what they have learnt and establish contacts with industry. The current research focus areas are the Internet of Things ("Digital Twin"), Augmented Reality ("Tourist Guide") as well as cross-border projects in the field of innovation together with the Netherlands.

Support for founders

Entrepreneurship is an integral part of the curriculum; Entrepreneurial stimuli are promoted in projects and sometimes supported individually by professors, e.g. as advisers or, if the business is launched successfully, as advisory board members in the start-up. Münster University of Applied Sciences supports those interested in starting a business step by step in every phase of the start-up project - from the evaluation of the idea to conceptual support to organisational implementation in close cooperation with economic development agencies, chambers and other partners in regional start-up networks.

Other special features

The mission statement of Münster University of Applied Sciences sees the diversity of people as an enrichment. Comprehensive participation for everyone is the goal - regardless of gender, ethical and social background, religion, disability or sexual identity. In 2019, the university was certified accordingly in the Diversity Audit. In addition to digitalisation, internationalisation, health and technological leadership, the topic of sustainability is also firmly enshrined in the University Development Plan. In the current climate protection concept, concrete measures are being developed to reduce greenhouse gas emissions at the university of applied sciences.
