Special features regarding teaching

School-level knowledge of Natural Science is intensified in the first semester. The following semesters are devoted to teaching scientifically grounded knowledge, complemented by the development of practical skills in connected (laboratory) exercises. The practical training and the 12-week preparation of the Bachelor's degree paper on an application-oriented topic give the course a strongly practical bias. The professional training is complemented by Business Administration content and the acquisition of soft skills as well as cooperation with private companies to ensure a modern education.

Special features regarding the international orientation

Cooperation and projects with international universities, ERASMUS programmes.

Special features regarding the equipment

The pupil laboratories offer a wide range of courses in the MINT subjects (Mathematics, Computer Science, Natural Science and Technology) for school pupils at secondary level II. The department also has other laboratories including for Metallography, Laser Laboratory, Plasma Laboratory, Photonics Laboratory, Bioprocess Engineering, Microbiology and Biochemistry, Instrumental Analysis, Systems Integration, Microtechnology, Deformation and Vibration Analysis, High-Performance Computers. WiFi and computer workstations are available in the library and media centre on the entire campus.

Special features regarding research and development

Cooperation and projects with research institutions and universities, many research projects, including development and characterisation of nanodisperse, ferritic steels containing oxide; Energy management system for Renewable Energies; Carbon-based function layers for electronics and photonics; New light sources and components for silicon-photonics; Creation of the PTFE Nano-composites Optical Sensor for Aggressive Materials

Other special features

Natural science, technical pupil laboratories, Physics Olympics, taster course, children's university; Start-up service and start-up network, Creativity laboratory ViNN:Lab. The Centre for Student Orientation and Guidance offers workshops and informational events in schools and at trade fairs: Specialised lectures and workshops at schools about academic studies, degree course ambassadors/pupil alumni, students report in workshops at schools about study options, their day-to-day lives and about the requirements and prerequisites for future students, Wildau interests test.
