Special features regarding teaching

The professors and academic staff of the University Medical Center mainly teach in several degree programmes. The same applies to the facilities involved. Here, too, lecture halls, seminar rooms, laboratories and the classroom are used by all of the degree programmes in university medicine. This taps into synergies, with skills successfully taught at the interface with medicine.

Special features regarding the international orientation

A contract for a double-degree programme between the Rostock University Medical Center (Master’s in Medical Biotechnology) and the Andijan State Medical Institute in Uzbekistan was signed in November 2019. Furthermore, the new course and examination regulations for the Master´s degree programme (since winter semester 2021/22) have been designed to expand course offerings in English.

Special features regarding the equipment

The BIOMEDICUM was recently built on the Schillingallee Campus as a research and teaching facility with approx. 3,000 square metres of usable space. Of the approx. 3,000 square metres of usable space, approx. 2,400 square metres are planned for use in research areas and 600 square metres for instruction. The modern building with laboratories, classrooms and the only simulation arena of its kind in the state; High-quality research equipment in core facilities of UMR

Special features regarding research activities

In 2019, around 550 ongoing, externally funded projects were contractually committed to Unimedizin, including 6 EU and 36 DFG projects and 110 projects funded with federal funds (total funding volume approx. EUR 72 million). Of particular note are CRC 1270 ‘Elektrisch aktive Implantate - Elaine’, the ‘RESPONSE – Partnerschaft für Innovation in der Implantattechnologie’ consortium (total funding of EUR 45 million), the Rostock/Greifswald location of the Deutsches Zentrum für Neurodegenerative Erkrankungen in der Helmholtz-Gemeinschaft (DZNE), the Fraunhofer working group on ‘Extrakorporale Immunmodulation’.
