Special features regarding teaching

Integrated campus and distance education, i.e. combination of independent study (approx. 70%) and practice-oriented attendance phases (approx. 30%), in particular exercises (approx. every 2 weeks on Saturdays) and, if applicable, practicals in the lab. Provision of didactically prepared independent-study materials (coursework assignments, readers, video tutorials) for flexible independent study. If required, practicals can also be carried out online using simulation software. Moodle is the central electronic communication platform for students among themselves and between students and lecturers - with chats, Zoom sessions, blogs and teaching materials.

Special features regarding the international orientation

Each year a major international excursion of around 10 days is organised (destinations: USA, Canada, China, Singapore, Vietnam, South Africa ...). A one-day seminar on economic exchange, cultural differences in behaviour, education systems, transport and infrastructure serves as orientation. Students get to visit international companies, chambers of commerce, embassies and universities. The faculties of the two universities (South Westphalia University of Applied Sciences + Bochum University of Applied Sciences) cooperate with numerous partner universities.

Special features regarding the equipment

Well-equipped technology and computer labs (practice in small groups, independent realisation and evaluation of experiments); Library with engineering research options (e.g. DIN standards); All lecture rooms have projectors, computers and laptop connections; several public computer workstations with scanning and copying facilities; Excellently stocked libraries; Numerous online databases; Language labs, simulation and planning system Autodesk Inventor and Fusion, SAP Hana, Carve out, simulation of machining manufacturing processes with ExLSWOP, robot simulation

Special features regarding research activities

As part of the market research for the department, marketing studies are carried out annually for the combined degree course in Industrial Engineering. Further research focus areas of the Faculty of Technical Business Administration include Quality Management, Lean Six Sigma and Business Intelligence. Most recent projects in the field of Business Administration: EXIST potentials, FH-Preneur, Start-up Innovation Lab Economics: Entrepreneurship

Support for founders

From the initial idea to the start-up; The start-up initiative "Fhpreneur" accompanies students in the start-up process and offers them a holistic concept with bundled expertise. Furthermore, the start-up camp/incubator helps students by involving regional companies, start-ups, etc. in the start-up process at an early stage. Successful start-ups (alumni) form a supportive ecosystem together with partners from industry. The continuously expanding community lives by the guiding principle of "give and take" and thus creates result-oriented added value.

Other special features

According to a 2016 survey among employers in North Rhine-Westphalia, almost 90% of employers would recommend the combined degree programmes in Industrial Engineering (Bachelor) and Technical Business Administration (MBA) to their employees, and almost 100% of them would support their employees in pursuing these degrees. In addition, the training-integrated version of the Bachelor in Industrial Engineering is of interest to employers. Sustainability: The faculty has a sustainability lab and a Sustainability Officer. 2022 public university talks on the topic of energy.
