Special features regarding teaching

Integration of practically oriented tasks in research and development; The degree course is working on establishing a competence centre for Vehicle Electronics (KFE) in Lippstadt and carrying out student work at the KFE; Integration of guest lectures in the courses of the degree course.

Special features regarding the international orientation

The Hochschule Hamm-Lippstadt has partnerships with universities in the entire world. Students can participate in exchange programmes under Erasmus and summer schools with various universities. There is a degree programmes with Chongqing University of Posts and Telecommunications in China. A partnership with Koforidua Technical University in Ghana was used to develop and set up a degree course in Mechatronics there based on the HSHL model. Joint student projects are in planning and are being prepared.

Special features regarding the equipment

Electromobility vehicle hall; Battery-powered electric vehicle; Robotics; Modular production system; Surface analysis laboratory (scanning electron microscope; scanning force microscopy, 3D computer tomography); Optics laboratory; Light channel (horizontal and vertical); Materials characterisation and tribology; Thermography; Tensile test with temperature chamber; Dynamic differential calorimetry; Thermogravimetry; Grinding techniques including ion etching; 3D printers for plastics; Electron beam lithography; Smart-living laboratory; Chip-on-board (soldering laboratory); Materials and component testing; Lean management laboratory.

Special features regarding research and development

The special feature of this research projects lies in its interdisciplinarity (interdisciplinary departments and research fields) and strong practical relevance. Project examples: Renewable raw materials for optical components (NAROK); Polylactide from renewable raw materials ("Starke Forschung Chemie.NRW"); Development of tribology measurement device; Ageing of plastics under blue LED radiation; Disconnecting bonded lightweight structures; Construction and connection technology for power electronics in electromobility; Polylactide as a high-tech material for optical components

Support for founders

At its Lippstadt premises, HSHL offers the Master’s programme “Technical Entrepreneurship and Innovation”, which is of special interest to prospective entrepreneurs. The topic is dealt with in a variety of ways. A business ideas competitions for students is held and start-up grants are available for students as well as additional contact points such as the Entrepreneurclub, the Science 2 Business Lab and a consulting company for students.
