Special features regarding teaching

High priority is given to dialogue-oriented teaching, which is why semesters are limited to 50 students. Tutorials are offered in the first semesters. Starting in the second semester in particular, accompanying laboratories and projects are offered alongside the lectures in order to prepare students for working in industry at an early stage. Standard industry software applications are also used from the very beginning. An interdisciplinary project that lasts for the duration of the entire final theory semester teaches team skills, project management and presentation skills.

Special features regarding the international orientation

The faculty has been establishing international partnerships for many years. Double degree programmes have thus been introduced with leading universities in Mexico, China and Finland that our students can take without any fees. Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs) are signed with 15 universities, e.g. in Singapore, India, USA, Turkey and the Ukraine, so that students can complete a semester of study there. In return, we offer a total of 50 credit points in English. The partnerships also thrive on, in particular, regular teacher exchange.

Special features regarding the equipment

Equipment in the laboratories is characterised by strong practical relevance and the latest technology. Particularly worth mentioning is a clean room with extensive equipment for Microelectronics and Microsystems Technology as well as state-of-the-art measuring and testing facilities for electrical drives, Automation Technology, Optics and Vehicle Electronics. Process Automation Laboratory for topics related to Bioengineering and Medical Technology; Solar test field with Power Electronics Laboratory and Energy Storage. There is a high-voltage facility available and a Laboratory for Renewable Energies which includes a solar test field.

Special features regarding research and development

Numerous industry projects approved in the last 5 years; Focus on Industry 4.0 and Technology in health and nursing; Industry partnerships with over 100 companies in the region through the Mechatronics competence network of Baden-Württemberg; Collaboration in the Photonics and Microsystems Engineering networks of Baden-Württemberg; Steinbeis Transfer Centre with more than 90 employees close to the campus; Doctorates within the framework of the Hybrid graduate school with Universität Stuttgart and the companies Daimler and Bosch; Formula Student with e-vehicle

Other special features

Students first complete common stage I studies in Mechatronics; this is followed by specialisation in a course of study. The degree programme is accompanied by Mechatronics projects with practical relevance in which students work on industrial projects. Regular excursions to industrial companies; 20-week practical semester and final thesis (4-6 months) in industry.; Many assistant professors from industry.
