Special features regarding teaching

Fundamental training including personal supervision by professors. A special feature of the subject groups are two integrated projects in the fourth and sixth semesters conducted in teams of four to eight students. During the projects, students will become familiar with the basic elements of modern project management methods, presentation techniques and communication skills as well as creativity techniques. They learn to get to grips with a new subject, to work in a team, to organise themselves in a group and to assume responsibility for individual aspects.

Special features regarding the international orientation

The department works internationally, e.g. with the offer of three summer schools: "Mobile autonomous robots - ROS", "3D printing" and "Industry 4.0". In addition to international partner universities, there are various international university projects It is also possible to take double degrees with the Tongij University in Shanghai, China and the CIDESI in Mexico.

Special features regarding the equipment

The laboratories involved in the Mechatronics subject groups – from the involved subject areas of Mechanical Engineering and Mechatronics, Aerospace Engineering, as well as Electrical and Information Technology – are all very well equipped and reflect the current state of the art.

Support for founders

TRACE entrepreneurship programme: Additional qualification for students to develop entrepreneurial skills to establish initial contacts and to gain access to Aachen’s entrepreneurs’ network. “Entrepreneurship” module: Within a group, students develop a start-up idea and draw up a realistic business plan. They are supported by start-up coaches; industry experts evaluate the idea and the business plan. In the entrepreneurship seminar module, students get in touch with representatives from the field. Start-up centre in formation.
