Special features regarding teaching

The Mechatronics laboratory makes it possible to work on a Mechatronics project within the framework of a project assignment already in an early phase of studies. Successful projects in robot football, humanoid robots, energy-efficient vehicles and autonomous helicopters make it possible to have contact early on with scientifically relevant subjects at a high level. In the StartING programme, students do not yet have to choose a specific engineering subject, but have one semester to learn about the different subject areas.

Special features regarding the international orientation

The Hochschule Offenburg has a large number of partnerships with foreign higher education institutions. The close proximity to France, particularly Strasbourg, also makes it possible for students to complete semesters abroad at partner universities, e.g. the engineering school INSA. There is also a good relationship in the form of groups of exchange students with the Tec de Monterrey in Mexico and the Technical University of Sofia. A partnership with the universities in the US state of Alabama enables student exchanges with these universities.

Special features regarding the equipment

The department has 28 modern laboratories that are available for teaching as well as research activities. Laboratories for the projects, e.g. the Shell Ecomarathon (Vehicle Mechatronics) or participation in robot football (humanoid robots) offer modern workstations with modern equipment. Large laboratory halls are home to industrial robots and a production line which can be used to research aspects of industrial digitization

Special features regarding research and development

HS Offenburg is one of the 4 strongest research universities in Baden-Württemberg. The institutes for Applied Research (IAF), for Unmanned Aerial Systems (IUAS), the Peter Osypka Institute of Medical Technology (POI) the institute for machine learning and analytics (IMLA) and the Institute of Energy Systems Engineering (INES), which are all located at the university, provide the basis for Mechatronics research in broad fields of application.

Support for founders

The Career Centre provides targeted seminars, for example, on topics such as business start-ups or time-management. Several Master's courses, nationally and internationally, make it possible to continue studies after the Bachelor's degree and participate in other Mechatronics projects at the graduate level.
