Special features regarding teaching

Intensive supervision of students in small groups (small dual degree course with small course groups and thus very close personal contact between professors and students); Intensive links established between theory and practice through structured practical phases in partner companies of the university; Strong emphasis on project work during academic studies; Opportunity to participate in research and development projects as part of study projects.

Special features regarding the international orientation

Internationalism is a defining element of the academic profile of the university. 160 active partnerships with universities all over the world offer a wide range of exchange opportunities for students and scientists. We value a culture of exchange and welcome. Annual organisation of International Summer School "Computational Engineering" with an average of 15 students from different countries. A course lasts three weeks. A ten-week guest professorship is taken every year in Shanghai.

Special features regarding the equipment

The dual degree programme department has eight laboratories, including for mechanical engineering and CAD. CNC 5-axis machining centre, various other machine tools, tool calibration device, thermo-solar testing station, self-developed test benches: Wind tunnel, heat transfer, laser measurement technology, characteristic curves for fluid energy machines, etc. The Berlin School of Economics and Law offers a large number of different databases. In addition, students can use the HoWeR research portal from anywhere at the click of a mouse to access all journals accessible online at the HWR Berlin.

Special features regarding research and development

As a result of the dual concept of the degree course and the close integration of theory and practice, various opportunities arise for collaboration with companies. Application-oriented research mainly concentrated on the machining of bio-based, renewable natural fibre synthetics in the last two years. The focus was on material aspects of drilling and milling processes. Research revolved mainly around the behaviour of the fibre-matrix composite in different contact conditions.

Support for founders

At the Start-up Incubator of the Berlin School of Economics and Law, students can take their first steps from theory to implementation. The Startup Incubator offers students an extensive range of services, including workshops, coaching, team matching, peer learning, mentoring and much more. It promotes ideas, concepts and prototypes. Entrepreneurial thinking and action are promoted among dual/cooperative students also within companies. This ranges from product and process innovation to the establishment of subsidiary companies.

Other special features

In the German capital, the Berlin School of Economics and Law is the largest provider of dual/cooperative programmes. Its approximately 2,000 dual/cooperative spaces are among the most popular academic offers available in Berlin and are provided in cooperation with over 700 companies. The dual/cooperative programmes of economic sciences and engineering at the Berlin School of Economics and Law are characterised by a study concept of the highest quality with broad-based practical relevance.
