Special features regarding teaching in the bachelor's degree programme

We provide flexibility through a wide range of electives, which allows students to design their studies as they wish. We demonstrate responsibility through the close and intensive support we offer our students. We offer variety through a wide range of teaching formats. We reflect practice by offering a large number of programming courses. We show our commitment to diversity be employing a large number of women professors and lecturers with professional experience in different countries.

Special features regarding the international orientation

Some courses in the two Bachelor's degree programmes are taught entirely in English. For others, for example, some of the exercise groups are offered in English. In preparation for this, students complete an English course as part of the curriculum. Semesters abroad are recommended, and the transfer of credits earned while abroad is supported. The basis for this is the ERASMUS+ programme and the Global Startup Lab Germany, a bilateral international programme for cooperation in teaching between the University of Regensburg and MIT.

Special features regarding the equipment

The faculty's working groups have excellent, cutting-edge technical equipment. This includes an AI computer cluster, a robot laboratory and computer laboratories (eye-tracking laboratory, Future Interaction Lab, and kitchen laboratory with smart oven). Mobile devices such as augmented reality headsets, navigation belts, mobile eye trackers or professional equipment for survey interviews are also available. Specifically for students, there are lecture rooms and CIP clusters equipped with state-of-the-art media technology.

Special features regarding research activities

The work groups of the faculty are internationally renowned in their research areas of information security, explainable AI, methods in the natural sciences and human-centred AI, and have been distinguished by a large number of publications in high-ranking journals and conferences, as well as success in competitive acquisition of third-party funds. In addition, there are a large number of regional, national and international research collaborations in computer science and data science as well as many areas of application (biomedicine, humanities, law).

Other special features

Proportion of women professors: 30%, the top position in Germany (national average between 13 and 14%); Regular meeting of women in FIDS and other initiatives by the FIDS gender equality representative; Computer Science and Society lecture cycle: Experts teach topics such as sustainability and the social impact of computer science; Sustainability as a research topic: e.g. DataDonations4SustainableChange, TRADEmark, IT/OT security research, food recommendation systems
