The faculty trains specialists in the heterogeneous and multi-professional fields of social work as well as the academic health professions. Students in the nursing degree programme learn to develop concepts in their professional field, conduct projects on current developments and manage problem-solving processes responsibly. The main features of the programme are its excellent practical relevance and the development of personal and social skills.

The Faculty offers master's degree programmes in social work ("Inclusion-Exclusion" master's) and nursing (Advanced Nursing Practice). The consecutive Master's degree programme in Clinical Care provides students with expanded and specialised professional skills in nursing practice. The master's programme connects theoretical scientific information, teaches basic concepts of Advanced Nursing Practice (ANP) and deepens the clinical assessment. This degree course is offered in cooperation with the Protestant University of Applied Sciences of Nuremberg.

The international orientation of the department is an important goal. There are various cooperations with other international universities in the faculty. In the Nursing degree programme, English-language elective courses are offered, and practical placements can also be completed abroad in compliance with the legal requirement. English-language guest lectures (also hybrid) are a regular part of teaching.

In the skills and simulation laboratories, practical professional skills are learned and practised in parallel with theory. The modern equipment with a wide variety of equipment, materials and high-tech simulation dolls enable optimal preparation for and follow-up of practical assignments. Scenarios simulated with actor patients are also part of the teaching in the skills labs, as are training sessions carried out using modern virtual reality equipment. The university library provides access to international databases such as CINAHL and Cochrane Library.

Starting with summer semester 2020, most courses at OTH Regensburg were converted to online courses. The technical prerequisites were met with the e-learning platform, and the possibilities for video conferencing were also greatly expanded. The lecturers were supported in the transition by the Teaching and Didactics Service Centre, which provided substantial materials. For the first-year students in the Bachelor's degree programme in Nursing, a majority of the courses also had to be planned as online courses (including video conferences) in winter semester 2020/21.
