Special features regarding teaching

Course records are available for a variety of modules. For each semester, the laboratory and practical training courses are individually designed so that students can complete their courses and modules at any time. This prevents a delay in the schedule of studies. The laboratory equipment is also extensive and lectures are held in small groups. This allows instruction to be carried out in a seminar style with accompanying tutorials. This ensures high practical relevance and motivates the students.

Special features regarding the international orientation

As a result of the universal German-language courses, international exchange is generally characterised more by study visits abroad by students at the university rather than by visits from international students.

Special features regarding the equipment

The lecture theatres, seminar rooms, computer rooms and laboratories are state-of-the-art and are kept continuously up-to-date. In the library and corridors there are many study areas available and it is possible to work alone in individual learning cells in the library where group work can also be carried out.

Special features regarding research and development

The profile of the university is characterised by strong practical relevance as well as close collaboration with industry and other partners. Since small and medium-sized companies are often not able to operate adequate research and development facilities, the university makes a vital contribution to the development of the region by acting as a "research laboratory" for these companies. In addition, the research serves the purpose of continuously updating the curriculum and provides interesting fields of work for the students as within the framework of projects and theses.

Support for founders

The "Entrepreneurship SWF" initiative promotes entrepreneurship in rural areas of South Westphalia in order to flexibly meet the challenges of digitisation and demographic change. With the degree course in Entrepreneurship at the FH SWF as a foundation, the StartupLab SWF as an incubator and the Netzwerk Digitale Wirtschaft SWF as an accelerator, entrepreneurial competencies are systematically and comprehensively promoted and students, start-ups and medium-sized businesses in the region are matched with each other. All this is also open to ET students and is used by them.

Other special features

Students enjoy a high level of flexibility through early specialisation options. In the bachelor’s degree, only the first-year courses are specified. The master's degree can also be taken remotely online. The classes are held in the early evening. This allows students to work while they study.
