Special features regarding teaching

Broad and differentiated international networks in research/teaching, with special key areas in historical lexicology and etymology, multilingualism research, cross-culturalism and diversity research; International graduate school; Bi- and trinational degree courses, international research cooperation, especially with France, Canada and Senegal; the chair in French. Literary Studies in the European Context, which is occupied by a French professor who also heads the Institut Français Saarbrücken, is a distinctive feature.

Special features regarding the international orientation

Teaching dedicated to a large cultural area such as Africa, Canada, South America and Europe. Large number of courses in a foreign language, many guest lecturers and guest researchers from countries within and beyond Europe (Italy, Spain, Gabon, Senegal, Cameroon, Canada, France). The LEI is one of the flagships of modern dictionary research whose impact reaches far beyond the special area of Italian and Romance Studies into other linguistic and social science disciplines. The Romance studies departments has a number of professors at several graduate colleges, including "European Dream Cultures", and IRTG "Diversity".
