Special features regarding teaching

Romance Studies comprises French, Italian and Spanish in Münster; additional Romance languages can be learned. The range of courses includes all eras from the Middle Ages to the present, always combining demanding theory with practical applications to words and text. Thematically changing seminars and lectures ensure a varied degree course, offering space to pursue one’s own interests and to open up new fields together with the lecturers. Practical language training is offered exclusively by native language teachers.

Special features regarding the international orientation

The stay abroad is compulsory; High number of partner universities and ERASMUS spots in France, Spain and Italy as well as Belgium and Hungary; in addition, our employees take advantage of the possibility of staff mobility; participation in international conferences is a matter of course; regular international guest lecturers enhance ordinary teaching and also offer specialist lectures; ERASMUS incomings are regular guests as well; practical language courses are held exclusively by native speakers

Special features regarding the equipment

The seminar rooms are well equipped for modern teaching (WiFi, projectors), and the Romance Studies Seminar has an interactive whiteboard.

Special features regarding research activities

All professors in the Romance Studies department have research and publication projects that are funded as individual projects (through budgeted positions, the German Research Foundation (DFG) or fellowships) or are organised through and connected with research networks with qualification positions. Institutionally and interdisciplinarily, the Romance Studies scholars participate in all of the department’s research training groups, e.g. in the Cluster of Excellence on RELIGION AND POLITICS. Financially funded projects, linked with univ. of different countries, can be found in Romance Studies as well as joint research with colleagues in Erasmus partner universities.
