Special features regarding teaching

Small study groups enable students to have particularly intensive supervision and personal contact to the teaching staff. Cultural Studies is supported by all teaching staff equally, although Literary Studies deals more with arts-related topics (film, music) and Linguistics offers more with topics from the fields of (regional) identity, historic discourses and discourse analysis. Annual excursions abroad make it possible to explore the Romance countries together with the instructors. Expertise in languages not taught at school: Portuguese, Galician, Basque & Catalan.

Special features regarding the international orientation

Close cooperation with the University of Alacant with student and lecturer exchange and a joint ‘International Institute for Iberian Studies’; Contacts to Latin America, especially Brazil; Ties to western European regions with their own languages (the Basque country, Catalonia, the Balearic Islands, Valencia, Brittany, Sardinia, Galicia).

Special features regarding research activities

Editorial office of the journal "Romanische Studien" (Romance Studies)
