Special features regarding teaching

The focus is on "transitions in the course of life", as challenges and opportunities for age groups and institutions. The profile is based on the pluralised society and the associated individual and societal challenges for social work. Teaching is characterised by a trust-based and appreciative collaboration between teaching staff and students. Through the tradition of "research-based teaching and learning", professional problems and questions are worked on in a largely self-directed manner and applied to practice.

Special features regarding the international orientation

The Social Work as a Human Rights Profession module was developed with the partner university LAB University of Applied Sciences Finland and implemented in the Erasmus+ (blended learning) funding track with students at Palacký University Olomouc Czech Republic. The faculty is also oriented towards the Greater Region (Grand Est, France; Wallonia, Belgium; Luxembourg). A collaboration with the University of Namibia (UNAM) and membership of vircampus (international online teaching) are currently under development.

Other special features includes: Involvement of the greater region (e.g. Interreg.GR), the collaboration platforms Health and Europe and FITT (Institute of Technology Transfer) as well as interdisciplinary competence centres.

Support for founders

Here, there are efforts to link the topic of entrepreneurship with the Faculty of Economics. There is also the opportunity to advise and support start-ups in the cooperation project htw saar - University of Fine Arts. Joint workshops (in the compulsory elective area) have also taken place. In the compulsory elective subject "5 Euro Start-up", students of all degree courses can start their own company and participate in a start-up competition. In addition, start-up advice from FITT (Institute of Technology Transfer) is available to all students.
