Special features regarding teaching in the bachelor's degree programme

In addition to sound Scientific training, we teach the students the necessary skills to work on relevant research issues (wide range of elective subjects, differentiated specialisation through special modules). As a scientific partner for competitive sports, we support top athletes, sports associations and clubs with special advisory services, diagnostic performance tests and research results. We train teachers to prepare them adequately for the challenges brought with of heterogeneous school classes (inclusion) and to inspire pupils with enthusiasm for exercise and sport.

Special features regarding teaching in the master's programmes

The degree programme is heavily research-oriented and provides an opportunity to increase specialist knowledge and research methods in selected fields. Students are required to complete fundamentals and a project in which they found a company and discuss socially relevant issues in the field of sport (e.g. hosting the Olympics, transgender athletes in competitive sports, etc.)

Special features regarding the international orientation

Faculty-internal counselling centre for international mobility supports students and staff in international affairs. In consideration of international labour market requirements, the new completely English-language master's programme "Sport and Exercise Science" was created. The course concept is based on international role models and enables an intensification of international cooperation.

Special features regarding the equipment

The faculty facilities are housed on the TUM Campus in the Olympic park in the historical atmosphere of the 1972 Olympic Games. In the modern building on the TUM campus in Olympia Park, it has numerous excellently equipped sports halls and extensive outdoor facilities and thus provides the largest interconnected sports campus in Europe.

Special features regarding research activities

The students are involved in the concrete research process in all courses of study. In all courses of study, modules are provided to increase research skills. The aim of the final thesis is that concrete scientific publications are submitted. To improve the educational situation, the faculty has set up its own teaching/learning centre for the implementation of students' academic projects, e.g. in the context of theses, seminar papers, and exercises.

Other special features

In addition to the Sports Science focus, the faculty also concentrates on health care issues. In the TUM prevention research centre we dedicate ourselves above all to prevention research with an independent laboratory section. In the centre, collaboration takes place with internal and external partners on an inter-disciplinary and international level. Courses available: Science-oriented BSc and MSc degree courses (Sport and Health Sciences); Teacher training course for sport.
