Two very well-equipped CIP clusters with 54 stations; The geomorphological-sedimentological lab is equipped for the recovery of sediment cores at the sediment/water interface, for long sediment cores and for the monitoring of particle flux in the water column of a lake. In addition to the non-destructive investigation of sediment cores by means of physical methods, the laboratory equipment is designed for the execution of analysis with high sample throughput, as is necessary for temporal high-resolution analyses of lacustrine sediment sequences.

Special features regarding research activities

The working groups of the Institute of Geography work on a broad spectrum of current geographical issues. The two Physical Geography professors deal with Geomorphology and polar research on the one hand, and climate and questions on Vegetation Geography on the other. The two Human Geography professors specialise in Economic Geography as well as Urban Geography. Moreover, the Institute has a professorship for Sustainable Regional Development in Globalisation assigned to it. Two assistant professors carry out research in the area of Geographical Didactics.

Other special features

The University emphasises its anti-discrimination workplaces for equality and diversity. There is a Virtual Academy for Sustainability with a wide range of course offerings (online). A sustainability mission statement is currently in progress.
