Special features regarding teaching in the bachelor's degree programme

The BSc focuses on as broad an education as possible, which allows students to develop their own profile as they continue their studies. The focus is on teaching the basics and putting them into practice from a scientific point of view.

Special features regarding teaching in the master's programmes

Profile development is discussed individually and not on the basis of a subject with a counsellor and documented in a target agreement. In addition, it is possible to obtain job-specific qualifications in applied geology or to obtain a binational German-Argentine dual degree.

Exchange universities for stay abroads

Uni Thessaloniki, Giechenland; Universität Wien, Österreich; Universidad Complutense Madrid, Spanien; Uni Oviedo, Spanien; Karls-Universität Prag, Tschechien; Technische Universität Istanbul, Türkei; Stockholm University, Schweden

Special features regarding the equipment

Central microanalysis (including electron microprobe, X-ray powder diffraction, scanning electron microscope); Rock physics and mechanics laboratory test facilities; Hydrochemical and hydraulic laboratories; Library; Workshop.

Special features regarding research activities

Renewable raw materials, in particular geothermal energy (cooperation with the Fraunhofer Institute IEG located near the campus), timescales of volcanic activity, temperature/climate reconstructions of the oceans, quantification of earthquakes.

Other special features

The decentralised diversity officers are contact persons at the faculty in cases of discrimination. They advise or refer those affected to suitable counselling centres. They work to ensure that diversity is perceived and taken into account in a targeted manner in all areas of the faculty. They provide information, point out grievances and are committed to ensuring that the diversity of university life is perceived and appreciated as an asset. They work closely with the anti-discrimination body and the Equal Opportunities Office and are also involved in committee work.
