Special features regarding teaching in the bachelor's degree programme

The Geosciences of the Universität Bayreuth offer both research and practice-based teaching in four complementary degree courses (BSc and MSc Geo-Ecology, MSc Global Change Ecology, MSc Experimental Geosciences). These are oriented in an inter-disciplinary way and deal with both regional and global environmental systems.

Special features regarding teaching in the master's programmes

Through explicitly international degree programmes taught exclusively in English, there is a wide range of courses taught in English. This also draws many international students to Bayreuth. English-language specialist library and work placements abroad promote the international focus of the university.

Special features regarding the equipment

The BayCEER has equipment for the recording of climate data (measuring pillars), for chemical analysis, a laboratory for isotope biogeochemistry, as well as open land for experimental biodiversity research. The MSc Experimental Geosciences has at its disposal the full range of scientific equipment for high-pressure synthesis and analysis.

Special features regarding research activities

BayCEER is a research institution of the Universität Bayreuth which combines the activities in the fields of Environmental Sciences and Ecology. Research fields are Global Change: Consequences, prognoses and prevention; Biodiversity: Dissemination, Function and Conservation; Ecosystems: Function and Performance; Environmental and Nature Conservation. The Bavarian Research Institute of Experimental Geochemistry and Geophysics carries out experimental high-temperature/high-pressure research in the fields of Mineralogy, Petrology, Geochemistry and Geophysics.

Other special features

Since 2021, the University of Bayreuth has had a sustainability strategy with goals including resource conservation and energy efficiency. Green Campus is the university's sustainability office, which bundles activities related to sustainability.
