Special features regarding teaching in the bachelor's degree programme

Bamberg Computer Science offers a broad, interdisciplinary-based and research-related range of courses with numerous options and a good student-teacher ratio. It is aimed at students with interests in core Computer Science as well as those with interest in the application areas of Humanities and Cultural Studies. The course does not focus on hardware, but instead is centred on projects. All courses are offered at least once a year and the related examinations each semester. The faculty has been a member of the Computer Science Faculty Day since 2017.

Special features regarding the international orientation

With the support of the International Centre, all interested students have a wide range of opportunities to study abroad, and many students take advantage of the opportunity. The MSc in International Software Systems Science is also explicitly international and 100% of the degree courses are taught in English. The co-education and joint study design of international students and the high proportion of courses taught in English- courses characterise everyday study. The broad international network of the professorship allows students to participate in international projects and events.

This room is a flexible, multi-style teaching room with retractable screens in the tables that can be used for lectures and seminars with hands-on practical tasks on the computer. All academic chairs have their own laboratories for project work.

Special features regarding research activities

Bamberg Computer Science has an interdisciplinary format and combines applied computer science with classical fields of computer science. Within this, the research profile is focussed on innovative applications in particular in the Digital Humanities, the interface between humans& computers as well as the realisation & analysis of complex, networked software systems. Supplemented by the Centre for Innovative Applications in Computer Science (ZIAI) and the Bamberg Centre for Artificial Intelligence (BaCAI).

Other special features

The faculty was awarded the Minerva Informatics Equality Award in 2018. The Minerva Informatics Equality Award annually honours departments or faculties of European universities and research laboratories that promote and support women's careers in computer science research and education. The University of Bamberg has been audited as family-friendly since 2005 and has been a member of the "Family and University" Best Practise Club since 2015.
