Special features regarding teaching in the bachelor's degree programme

The Media Informatics degree programme provides an opportunity to specialise in web development, game development, computer graphics/CA/VR, artificial intelligence, networks and IT security. In addition to front-end software development (for web, Android and iOS applications), the mobile media degree course teaches interaction design and experience design with the aim of broadly covering the human-centred design process from idea to implementation. The electives available for media informatics are also available for mobile media.

Special features regarding teaching in the master's programmes

The computer science and media degree programme offers a wide range of electives. At the beginning of the master's degree programme, students define an individual study plan in a learning agreement, in which they decide between pure technical specialisation (e.g. in the field of artificial intelligence), a broadening of technical and methodological skills or a mixture (so-called "T-shaped professional").

Special features regarding the international orientation

The Stuttgart Media University (HdM) maintains nearly 120 international university partnerships and actively supports students in the implementation, financing and recognition of semesters abroad. For "internationalisation at home", there are two minors in the field of Computer Science (Games Technology and App Design/Development), through which international guest students also participate in courses and projects of the degree programmes. The Mobile Media degree programme regularly organises Erasmus+ Blended Intensive Programmes (BIP) with foreign universities (e.g. Ireland, Belgium).

Special features regarding research and development

The field of study focuses on research in Artificial Intelligence, Automotive Applications, Experience Design, Barrier-Free Access, VR Applications, Game Development, Security, Humanoid Robots. In the field of Computer Science, the university is a member

Other special features

Especially attractive for students is the wide range of elective courses, which allow students to personalise their degree programme with optimum opportunities for development, and the possibility of carrying out their own projects, including in interdisciplinary teams. The study area runs the Baden-Württemberg Competence Centre for Digital Accessibility. The university bundles interdisciplinary research and project activities concerning sustainability.
