Special features regarding teaching in the bachelor's degree programme

Chemistry is taught in relation to the sub-disciplines and is integrated with related subjects (Biochemistry, Physics, Geoscience and Environmental Sciences). Through participation in research projects, which is strongly encouraged and supported, students learn the importance of knowledge and its application to scientific issues from the very outset of their degree programme. The CBT and MCCB degree programmes allow first and second-year students to participate in research projects in the institute's working groups. Co-authorship by students on scientific publications is often possible.

Special features regarding the international orientation

The degree course, as well as the entire university, has a very strong international focus. The course is taught in English, and the majority of students come from abroad.

Special features regarding the equipment

The degree course is very well equipped and has everything necessary for demanding research. The organisation of the university and the degree course makes it possible for students to work with research apparatus and devices under supervision right from the start of their degree programme and thus experience the research-oriented applications of the laboratory courses, which build upon their seminar-based education and training.

Special features regarding research activities

The degree course is highly research-oriented and the research projects include inorganic materials chemistry, catalysis, analysis of ingredients in food, biotechnology, medical chemistry, biochemistry, and fluoro-organic chemistry.

Other special features

The degree course, as well as the entire university, has a very strong international focus. The course is taught in English, and the majority of students come from abroad with a highly diverse background (over 100 nations on our campus). Aspects of diversity are monitored by the EQ (Equality) Committee and information sessions on diversity are organised.
