Special features regarding teaching

Natural science principles are taught during the basic study stage. In the main study stage, the focus is on the special disciplines of pharmaceutical biology, pharmaceutical chemistry, pharmaceutical technology, pharmacology and clinical pharmacy. Additional fundamental knowledge is also provided, particularly in the medical field. Natural sciences programmes often feature a large number of practical courses and a wide range of content.

Special features regarding the international orientation

The Institute of Pharmacy maintains Erasmus partnerships with many European universities. It is possible to go abroad as part of the practical year as a graduate internship (ERASMUS+).

Special features regarding the equipment

The Department of Chemistry operates central service facilities in the area of workshops (precision engineering, electronics and glass technology) as well as scientific departments for electron microscopy, mass spectrometry, nuclear resonance spectroscopy, X-ray structure analysis and elemental analysis. The departments are furnished with modern equipment and are integrated into lectures and practicals as part of the degree course. In addition to literature databases, the department's chemical registry with safety data and information is also available to students.

Special features regarding research activities

The Department of Chemistry at UHH has divided its research activities into the areas of biological chemistry and molecular biology as well as materials and nanochemistry. The department is involved in the Clusters of Excellence "Advanced Imaging of Matter" and "Understanding Written Artefacts" of the UHH. Particularly noteworthy is the cooperation with numerous non-university research institutions such as Deutsches Electronen Synchrotron (DESY), Fraunhofer Centre for Applied Nanotechnology, Leibniz Institute for Virology, Helmholtz Centre Geesthacht Centre for Materials Research, BNI.

Other special features

A sustainability certificate can be acquired by students of the MIN faculty. Sustainability team at the Department of Chemistry with activities and events (e.g. sustainability idea competition or sustainability days)
