Special features regarding teaching in the bachelor's degree programme

Mathematics in Koblenz is characterised by a close linking of specialised studies and didactics. Key areas of research and teaching are the fields of mathematical modelling, simulation and optimisation and materials education. In the teacher training course, the combination of applied mathematical problems with modern didactic methods guarantees optimum preparation for working in schools. The modelling, simulation and optimisation of complex systems in the non-teacher training courses of study prepares students for practice in research and application.

Special features regarding teaching in the master's programmes

The Mathematics Institute offers numerous (research-oriented) courses in the areas of analysis, geometry, modelling, optimisation and simulation. There is also the history of mathematics; Didactics of mathematics for the primary and secondary school levels, with a special focus on the didactics of analysis, as well as reality-based mathematics teaching. Numerous projects which strive for a focus on skills, competition and the promotion of gifted students also enable (school) research-based teaching in the field of subject-specific didactics.

Special features regarding the international orientation

The numerous exchange programmes with partner universities and the high proportion of international students make it possible to integrate international experience into a degree course at the University of Koblenz. The International Relations Office supports incoming and outgoing students with all questions about studying in Germany or about stays abroad and funding opportunities.

Exchange universities for stay abroads

Chalmers tekniska högskola, Sweden; Lappeenrannan Teknillinen Yliopisto, Finland; National Mining University in Dnipropetrovsk, Ukraine; Sumy State Universit, Ukraine; Indian Institute of Technology Madras, Indien

Special features regarding the equipment

About 140 people are currently teaching and researching the various topics in the department. With their very personal commitment, they contribute to the ongoing development of our profile and help us explore the topics of tomorrow today. We have a correspondingly wide range of technical infrastructure, e.g. extensive digital teaching/learning equipment in computer and informatics laboratories and the associated expertise, for example, with regard to analysis, measurement, and calculation methods.

Special features regarding research activities

The MI is involved in the distinctly interdisciplinary BMBF research networks PASIROM (parallel simulation and robust optimization of electromechanical energy converters with uncertainties) and MLgSA (data and simulation-based exploration, analysis and treatment of vascular constrictions for the prevention of ischemic strokes). In addition, at the DFG TRR 181 with the project M6 Techniques for Atmosphere-Ocean Wave Coupling and the DFG Focus Programme 1962 with the project Simulation and Control of a Nonsmooth Cahn-Hilliard Navier-Stokes System with Variable Fluid Densities.

Other special features

Uni Koblenz is certified as a family-friendly university. Many services are provided, such as a day-care nursery, baby changing and breastfeeding rooms, holiday childcare and financial support services. The legal mandate to eliminate structural disadvantages for women is implemented through the Equality Plan of the University of Koblenz. The central points of contact are the Equality Opportunities Officer, the Women's Officer and the Women's Office. The university's Green Office supports students with any questions about sustainability development.
