Special features regarding teaching in the bachelor's degree programme

Courses are taught in close cooperation between lecturers and experts in university didactics. It is continuously evaluated, and prizes awarded and support provided for outstanding teaching and new forms of teaching. Teaching is research-oriented, so that students always learn the most up-to-date content and techniques. The department of Biology at the KIT has already received awards by external reviewers (Teaching Prize of the State of Baden-Württemberg, Fellowship of the Donor's Association).

Special features regarding the international orientation

The Erasmus programme makes it possible to study for an entire semester at a foreign higher education institution. Furthermore, our students can complete individual courses at a foreign university, for example as part of the EUCOR programme. Some work groups maintain a close exchange with researchers all over the world, so students are regularly sent to research institutions as part of an internship or thesis. Credits earned in courses completed abroad are recognised.

Exchange universities for stay abroads

Univerzita Karlova v Praze, Tschechien; Universidad de Cádiz, Spanien; Universidad de a Coruña, Spanien; Institut National des Sciences Appliquées de Lyon (INSA), Frankreich; Université de Nantes, Frankreich; Università degli studi di Ferrara, Italien; Università degli Studi di Roma 'La Sapienza', Italien; Universitetet i Oslo, Norwegen; Universidade Católica Portuguesa, Portugal; Högskolan i Skövde, Schweden

Special features regarding research activities

By merging KIT with the research centre (now Campus North), we can offer a broad spectrum of interdisciplinary, research-oriented teaching. Especially in the Master's degree programme, students participate in current research during their practicals and can thus build their profile and specialise during their studies.

Other special features

The Bachelor's degree course in Biology is divided into two study areas: Applied Biology and General Biology. In addition to basic training, Applied Biology focuses on industrial processes, applications and procedures. In contrast, General Biology also trains in classical disciplines, such as Botany and Zoology with associated excursions.
