Special features regarding teaching in the bachelor's degree programme

Specialisation in one of many fields of application or focal areas: Students are able to take numerous subject-specific courses from the various fields of application, which they take together with students from these fields. This gives them insight into state-of-the-art technologies that are used in the respective specialist fields. Very extensive range of courses offered with many options for individual profile development.

This gives them insight into state-of-the-art technologies that are used in the respective specialist fields. Very extensive range of courses with many elective options, individual profile development. Strongly research-oriented teaching, characterised by very different and at times very practical teaching methods.

Special features regarding the equipment

In the research laboratories of the Institute of Computer Science, students can experience the latest technologies up close and actively research their further development. This includes exciting areas such as sensor technology, robotics, computer security and the development of drones. In addition, the institute cooperates closely with the Society for Scientific Data processing mbH Göttingen (GWDG), which provides a variety of innovative services and tools for teaching and research, including the supercomputer "Emmy", which is the fastest computer in northern Germany.

Special features regarding research activities

Strongly interdisciplinary research projects and cooperations with disciplines such as Biology, Neurosciences and Physics as well as non-university research institutes. One focus is on data science, machine learning and artificial intelligence (AI), supported by the recently founded Campus Institute Data Science (CIDAS). The research activities are recognised by renowned scholarships (ERC, Humboldt, DFG Collaborative Research Centres and Heisenberg), awarded by leading German and European funding organisations.

Other special features

The topic of sustainability is anchored throughout the application subject "Computational Sustainability" in the Applied Data Science degree course and the focus area "Computer Science of Ecosystems" in the Applied Computer Science degree course. There is a parent-child room available at the Institute of Computer Science for students who have children. The very good networking in teaching and research with other faculties and non-university institutes, especially in the fields of natural sciences and data science, promotes numerous interdisciplinary collaborations and theses.
