Special features regarding research activities

Within the environment of the Technical University, the Department of Biology attaches particular importance to an interdisciplinary, engineering orientation in research and teaching. This has given rise to the research area "Synthetic Biology", which augments the portfolio of the Darmstadt University of Technology with the newly founded "Centre for Synthetic Biology". The focus on "Radiation Response and Genome Stability" benefits from the proximity to the GSI Helmholtz Centre for Heavy Ion Research. The intensive networking in the Rhine-Main environment is reflected in several joint CRCs with the Universities of Mainz and Frankfurt.
