Special features regarding teaching in the bachelor's degree programme

Model degree programmes: Bachelor of Science and Master of Education for Teaching Qualification, degree programme in the Elite Network of Bavaria M.Sc. MINT Teaching Qualification Plus, B.Sc. Biology: Specialisation in Molecular Biology and Cell Biology or Ecology/Biology of Organisms; MSc Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, MSc Molecular Ecology, MSc Biodiversity and Ecology; Doctoral programmes in Molecular Biosciences and Ecology and environmental research with fast-track option.

Special features regarding teaching in the master's programmes

Very research- and practice-oriented training with an individual focus in the compulsory elective area as well as in the advanced modules and the master's thesis. Very large number of practical courses. Very good support, especially for internships, due to small number of participants. Option to complete an additional course in addition to the master's programme.

Special features regarding the international orientation

Subject-specific cooperation agreements with foreign universities (e.g. York, Nice, Leiden) enable to complete work placements and semesters abroad.

Exchange universities for stay abroads

Universiteit Antwerpen, Antwerpen, Belgien; Universidad de Granada, Granada, Spanien; Universidad Complutense de Madrid, Madrid, Spanien; Universitat de las Illes Balears, Palma de Mallorca, Spanien; University of Ioannina, Ioannina, Griechenland; Universiteit Leiden, Leiden, Niederlande; Stockholm University, Stockholm, Schweden; University of Helsinki, Helsinki, Finnland; University of Eastern Finland, Joensuu, Kuopio, Finnland; University of Science, Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam

Special features regarding the equipment

Access to electron microscopes

Special features regarding research activities

Collaborative Research Centre (CRC) 1357 is located at the University of Bayreuth and focuses on "Microplastics – laws of formation, transport, physicochemical behaviour and biological effects: From model to complex systems as the basis for new solutions" and explores the origin, migration and effects of microplastics, developing new solutions for this immense environmental problem.

Other special features

Strong inter-disciplinary cooperation between the Department of Biology and chemists, physicists and engineers within the university; Further development through profile fields of Food and Health Science, Molecular Biosciences, Ecology and Environmental Science; Close links with subject-related subject-specific didactics; School student laboratory; Cooperation with schools; Campus university guarantees short distances and efficient studies. Students can earn a supplementary certified academic degree in Environmental Law.
