Special features regarding teaching

The university enables an exchange between disciplines, students and lecturers. Events from medicine and the health sciences are closely coordinated and the importance of pre-clinical training for medical work is taught at an early stage. All courses are evaluated and students are also asked about the campus atmosphere, study load and organisation. The goal is a quick, qualified academic degree and medical staff who can carry out their skills and share them in different professional fields.

Special features regarding the international orientation

60% of medical students complete a stay abroad during their studies, as a hospital internship or during their practical year. Students can choose from over 30 medical partner universities. The international degree and Erasmus students receive intensive advisory services and an individually tailored timetable. The medicine section cooperates closely in teaching and research with the STEM section as well as national and international research partners in the areas of infection and inflammation, brain, hormones, behaviour and biomedical engineering.

Exchange universities for stay abroads

Universitetet i Bergen, Norwegen; Universitat de Barcelona, Spanien; Université Paris 13, Frankreich; Università degli Studi di Roma 'La Sapienza', Italien; Università degli Studi di Bologna 'Alma Mater Studiorum', Italien; Medizinische Universität Wien, Österreich

Special features regarding the equipment

Training on emergency and treatment situations is carried out on simulation devices and dolls, and video systems are used to support communication training. The university skills labs for medicine and health are currently undergoing upgrades consisting of additional hardware and software for hybrid and AI-supported teaching. The faculty provides medical students with access to AMBOSS. The main university library was reopened with brand new equipment in December 2023.

Special features regarding research activities

In parallel with the Lübeck key research areas, teaching focus areas are integrated longitudinally into the curriculum, which are completed by all students and do not require a subject-area restriction or additional time. The teaching focus areas of prevention, communication and emergency medicine correspond to the key research areas of infection and inflammation, ; brain, hormones, behaviour and biomedical engineering. The focus is on topics at interfaces between medicine, computer science, life sciences and technology.

Other special features

The Ergotherapy/Speech Therapy, Midwifery Science, Nursing, Physiotherapy and Medicine degree programmes offer a unique range of health sciences under one roof. By learning with each other and from each other, today's interprofessional teaching guarantees the quality of tomorrow's healthcare. Since 2011, students have been interviewed in the Lübeck University Students Trial on health/stress, from which measures for study programme have been derived. The university pursues a jointly agreed diversity strategy and is a member of the Future Forum of Climate-Friendly Universities.
