Special features regarding teaching

The course has a large practical component. From the first semester, students are integrated into everyday clinical treatment and thus optimally prepared for their future careers. We champion and promote social responsibility through numerous social projects. Students benefit from a excellent personal development through their fundamental studies. The degree programme is offered in an integrated manner, in the integrated clinical course, all subjects are taught simultaneously from the seventh to the tenth. The students are chosen in an individual selection procedure.

Special features regarding the international orientation

Erasmus programme with the Universities of Vienna, Strasbourg, Paris, Brescia, Barcelona, and Clermont Ferrand; exchange programme with the University of Pennsylvania at Philadelphia (UPENN), University of Otago/New Zealand, and Hong-Kong University.

Special features regarding the equipment

At the An-Institut für Digitales Kompetenzzentrum in der Zahnmedizin (centre for digital competence in dentistry), students get access to the latest digital technology: face scan, jaw motion, DVT, intraoral scanners; Doctoral candidates have access to various devices in the research laboratory, e.g. SEM with EDX, non-contact surface analysis, chew simulator, teeth brushing machines, etc.; Various electronic databases, e.g. Cochrane, Statista, JCI.

Special features regarding research activities

The dental clinic is in a technology centre with focus on dentistry. Accordingly, application-related research is primarily carried out. Clinical research: Studies on implants, bone regeneration, prevention and restorative dentistry. Basic research. Surface changes due to erosion and abrasion, identification of mediators of inflammation, saliva analysis, de- and re-mineralisation, Biomaterial testing. The department has one of the three world-wide accredited pH telemetry centres for determining the cariogenicity of food and drinks.

Sustainability roadmap in the Department for Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery; Dental clinic certified as a green practice.
