Special features regarding teaching

Since WS 2018/19, the UW/H has offered a model degree programme in medicine based on Master Plan 2020, the guiding principle of which is that medical professionals are able to learn and act. This includes problem-oriented learning, patient contact from the first semester (including an eight-week general practice internship), a clinical-practical training period of approx. 36 block weeks, integrated curricula in the areas of communication, personal development, research methodology and practice, inter-professional practice and outpatient health care. Tracks allow students to set their own focus.

Special features regarding the international orientation

In its model degree programme for Medicine UW/H offers students a network of international cooperation partners. Particularly noteworthy is the cooperation with the Southern Medical University Guangzhou (China), where students can carry out practical trimesters (tertials) and TCM practicals. In addition, there is a cooperation agreement between the UW/H and the Metro Health Medical Centre in Cleveland Ohio, for nine practical places per year in the subject of Internal Medicine. At the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Tromsø (Norway), students can complete a module in pediatrics, gynecology, genetics and global health.

Special features regarding research activities

Translational (laboratory) research, clinical research, health care research, nursing sciences and psychology can develop synergies here.

Other special features

An integral part of the medical degree programme are fundamental studies in art history, philosophy, politics and culture.
