Special features regarding the equipment

Comprehensive core facility concept with (teaching) access to large-scale equipment. Modern training hospital since 2021 with simulation rooms available on a flexible schedule, such as the trauma room, an operating room or the hospital ward; Fully-equipped student S2 laboratory in the training hospital. In the "Multidimensional Trauma Sciences" research building (to be completed in 2025), researchers/doctoral candidates from a wide range of disciplines will gain an interaction area with the surgical and imaging centre as well as systems biology laboratories to investigate the mechanisms and consequences of trauma in various dimensions.

Special features regarding research activities

Profile building through the following key areas: molecular mechanisms of ageing and age-associated disorders (stem cell ageing, signal transduction, apoptosis, haematology/oncology, translational peptide research, rare neurodegenerative diseases); transdisciplinary trauma research (physical trauma, mental trauma). These focal areas are supported by more than 27 research associations coordinated in Ulm. Highlights include 4 collaborative research centres, the public-private research association BIU, the Comprehensive Cancer Centre, and locations of NCT, DZNE, DZKJ and DZPG.
