Highly practical, with small group and individual lessons under the supervision of a dentist, step-by-step development of practical skills, first on the model, then on patients; above-average offering of practical courses (especially treatment units); high number of online events for sharing knowledge (e.g. Virtual University of Bavaria); Digitalisation in dentistry; Use of virtual reality (VR): study projects, e.g. identifying teeth in virtual reality.

Special features regarding the equipment

Independent study centre ZeUS: Includes three hubs where students have the opportunity to learn and perfect practical skills and techniques using modern equipment and models. In simulation rooms, students also have the opportunity to practice ward rounds, examinations and other hands-on aspects of their studies.

Special features regarding research activities

The Medical Faculty and the clinic of the LMU are two of the most active university medicine research centres in Europe. The faculty is often the national leader in international research rankings. Students of dentistry are introduced to the ideal clinician scientist, who is both health care provider and researcher. Research areas, z.B.CAD/CAM technology, individual implants, osteosynthesis, tissue engineering, materials testing, materials science, biomechanics, virtual reality, caries diagnostics; Collaborative projects, international, multicentre studies.

Counselling on conflicts and discrimination, counselling and support for students with family responsibilities, counselling on gender equality and gender issues, psychotherapeutic and psychosocial counselling, counselling on inclusion and participation, inclusion tutors, intercultural & international guidance, intercultural support for international students, social guidance and support, and the LMU programme for refugees to introduce them to their studies.
