Special features regarding teaching

Within the framework of the UMG 2026 strategy process, the faculty has defined a total of five teaching-related projects (digitalisation, practical year, science, communication and interprofessionalism). The Dean's Office of Studies maintains a very close and regular exchange with the student councils. Students are represented in all working groups and committees of the faculty with an appropriate number of votes. The faculty attaches great importance to the involvement of the students and the participation in conceptual and content-related curricular adjustments and/or changes.

Special features regarding the international orientation

The University Medical Centre maintains exchange programs for medical students with the Universities of Krakow, Poland, and Iowa City, Iowa, USA. In addition, there are a wide range of relationships between scientists from university medicine and international cooperation partners in which medical students are also involved. Particularly noteworthy are the cooperation projects within Community Medicine with Blumenau, Brazil, and Bialystok, Poland, as well as other links in the Baltic region (e.g. Telemedicine Pomerania, German-Polish screening of newborns).

Exchange universities for stay abroads

Uniwersytet Medyczny im. Piastów Slaskich we Wroclawiu, Breslau, Polen; Universitatea de Medicina si Farmacie 'Iuliu Hatieganu' din Cluj-Napoca, Cluj-Napoca, Rumänien; Università degli Studi di Siena, Siena, Italien; Università degli Studi di Padova, Padova, Italien; Universidad de Cádiz, Cadiz, Spanien; Saint-Petersburg State University, Saint Petersburg, Russland; Pomorska Akademia Medyczna, Stettin, Polen; Medizinische Universität Graz, Graz, Österreich; Masarykova Univerzita v Brne, Brno, Tschechien; Cardiff University, Cardiff, Vereinigtes Königreich

Special features regarding research activities

UMG's research focuses on community medicine, molecular medicine, individualised medicine and digital health with a particular focus on common diseases (cardiovascular diseases, infection and inflammation, neurological/mental diseases, cancer). By purposefully combining population-based health research with the elucidation of health-relevant mechanisms at the level of the individual, research at the UMG provides valuable insights for improving medical care.

Other special features

The faculty has provided students with facilities to set up a learning café. This location is available to students from 8 am to 10 pm as a place to study, for student exchange and as a meeting place for student initiatives. Through the performance-based allocation of funds, a considerable amount is spent annually on the departments. In addition to evaluation results, the LOM concept also takes into account innovative teaching projects and special commitment to teaching. This provides a positive incentive to optimise and further develop of teaching.
