Special features regarding teaching

The combination of high-quality training, diverse research opportunities and a pleasant living environment make studying medicine at TU Dresden special: The Medizinisch-Interprofessionelles Trainingszentrum (MITZ) offers first-class facilities; renowned medical institutions for clinical-practical experience; In 2022, the Association of Friends and Sponsors of TU Dresden presented the teaching staff of the Faculty of Medicine with an award for teaching; The new Institute of Medical Education focuses on teaching

Special features regarding the international orientation

There are numerous opportunities for study abroad at one of our European partner institutions with ERASMUS or worldwide during the practical year, such as Flinders University (Australia), Shinshu University (Japan) or King's College (UK).

Special features regarding the equipment

There are numerous opportunities for digital support in teaching, e.g.: Telepresence robots (TPR) are mobile video conferencing systems. They enable participation in courses where students cannot attend in-person or virtual participation in sensitive areas that are subject to access restrictions. Students currently use VR glasses to conduct simulated autopsies so that they can practice in a protected learning environment. Students and teachers have free access to the AMBOSS knowledge database.

Special features regarding research activities

The three major research focuses of the Faculty of Medicine are oncological diseases, metabolic diseases with an emphasis on diabetes and neurological psychiatric diseases. In these areas, Dresden University hospital is particularly efficient both in research and in patient care and maintains a competitive critical mass for translational research, which is defined from basic to clinical research.

Other special features

The interdisciplinary lecture series "Gender-Sensitive Medicine" is offered hybrid and at all location with lecturers from Chemnitz, Dresden as well as visiting experts. It thus offers the opportunity to establish new digital didactic elements in the virtual setting and promotes communication between students and doctors on the Medicine campus in Dresden and Chemnitz. There are many opportunities for students to participate in sustainability projects, e.g. Health4Future or the German Alliance on Climate Change and Health (KLUG).
