Special features regarding teaching

Continuous further development of teaching and proof of academic achievement by the Dental Clinical Curriculum Committee or the Dental Medicine Examination Board; Students can use the learning support platform ANVIL and the MEDI-LEARN video courses free of charge for intensive preparation for the first, second and third sections of the dentistry examination.

Special features regarding the international orientation

The department maintains cooperation and exchange agreements with the Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredia in Lima, Peru and Monash University in Melbourne, Australia. Cooperation with the N. Lopatkin Scientific Research Institute in Moscow, Russia is suspended. Furthermore, an existing university cooperation agreement with the University of Bursa (Turkey) will be expanded to the Faculty of Medicine. A new cooperation with the Universidad de La Frontera Temuco (Chilé) has been initiated with an MOU (memorandum of understanding).

Special features regarding research activities

The research focus of the centre is "Oral Health and Surface Interactions (OHSI)". Under this focus, the centre's research projects concentrate primarily on interdisciplinary activities concerning the genetic and exogenous disposition of diseases, prophylaxis, diagnostics and treatment in the field of dental, oral and maxillofacial pathology (CMD), basic research on oral interface effects as well as biomaterial research and geriatric dentistry.

Other special features

The Continuing Education Master of Science in Pediatric Dentistry was accredited in 2015. Since then, it has been regularly offered together with the University of Marburg as a career-integrated programme. An International Master's degree programme is in preparation. Postgraduate continuing education programmes are offered in cooperation with the state Association of Dentists for the specialist qualification in Orthodontics and Oral Surgery. Sustainability plays a central role in the future strategy of the University and its Faculty of Medicine (web search: jlu office of sustainability).
