Special features regarding teaching

Course records are available for a variety of modules; Academic education with a high degree of practical relevance; broad scope of economics is aimed to qualify students for work in medium-sized companies; Intensive use of new teaching and learning platforms, portfolio examinations, small groups, inter-disciplinary modules, work placements and semesters abroad; Theory semester, interdisciplinary content; Broad orientation towards expertise, methodological competence, personal and social competence.

Special features regarding the international orientation

For many years, there has been active collaboration with the Wellington Institute of Technology (Weltec) and Victoria University of Wellington (NZ) with regular work placements abroad, practice semesters, lecturer stays and studies abroad. As a result of the universal German-language courses, international exchange is generally characterised more by study visits abroad by students at the university rather than by visits from international students.

Exchange universities for stay abroads

University of Abertay, Großbritannien; Napier University Edingburgh, Großbritannien; University of Ulster, Großbritannien; Zheijang University of Science and Technology, China; Insituto Politécnico de Setubal, Portugal; Umea Universitet, Schweden; Universidad de Cadiz, Spanien; Budapest University, Ungarn.

Special features regarding the equipment

Teaching and learning take place in pleasant new or very well renovated buildings. The equipment in all seminar rooms and lecture theatres permits the use of various media (projectors, screens, whiteboards). The laboratories include state-of-the-art technology. Several computer cluster rooms are available to students. The university buildings are equipped with WiFi. Numerous study areas in the library and in the hallways. The library offers access to extensive literature, such as through an online library network (DigiBib).

Special features regarding research activities

The profile of the university is characterised by strong practical relevance as well as close collaboration with industry and other partners. The university often acts as a "research laboratory" for small and medium-sized companies, which often do not have their own research and development department. Publicly funded research projects are also processed. Research serves to continuously update the range of courses and offers interesting fields of activity for students in the context of projects and theses.

Support for founders

With the professorship for Entrepreneurship, there is an institutionally anchored contact person in the faculty who ensures the integration of start-up-related modules in the curriculum and extracurricular awareness for supporting start-ups and innovation projects. There are events on the topic of start-ups. Business idea workshops are offered at regular intervals, in which students can develop their own business ideas. And there is also a co-working space, the start-up lab, which can be used by students for start-up and innovation projects.

Other special features

Many students receive scholarships, a large number of which are in the "cooperative model" (scholarship linked to work in a company during the non-lecture period); Individual advice for students from the Career Centre and lecturers; Coordinated course and exam timetables for all courses of study. The department encompasses both Economics and Engineering, which promotes interdisciplinary teaching and research (example: Technology - Environment - Economy).
