Special features regarding teaching

Industrial Engineering is a modern engineering subject and combines classic Mechanical Engineering with the theory and models of Economics. In the degree course in Industrial Engineering with a specialisation in Mechanical Engineering, students acquire skills and expertise in Engineering as well as Economics. This inter-disciplinary education enables them to work in technical, economic and inter-disciplinary fields after their degree (e.g. tasks in overlapping areas between Technology and Economics).

Special features regarding the international orientation

Industrial Engineering students, Mechanical Engineering specialisation, have many options to add an international component to their studies. They can take advantage of university partnerships of the Faculty of Economic Sciences and those of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering. Accordingly, the stay abroad can be designed quite individually: From work placement abroad and ERASMUS semester to dual Master’s programmes.

Exchange universities for stay abroads

Tsinghua University, China; Kungliga Tekniska Högskolan (KTH), Schweden; Universidade Técnica de Lisboa, Portugal; Politechnika Warszawska, Polen; Technische Universität Delft, Niederlande; Politecnico di Milano, Italien; Imperial College, Vereinigtes Königreich; École Centrale Paris, Frankreich; Keio University, Japan; Istanbul Teknik Üniversitesi, Türkei.

Special features regarding the equipment

The various institutes at RWTH Aachen have a wide range of technical equipment that is used in research and development. Students are given the opportunity to work with these machines as part of their academic work and their work as a research assistant. In addition, computer clusters are available to all RWTH Aachen students at various locations to be used freely and with no charge. University WiFi is also available.

Special features regarding research activities

RWTH Aachen offers its Bachelor's students a structured research programme that is unique in Germany; UROP promotes the early development of academic skills and opens up the path to academia.

Support for founders

RWTH Innovation Start-Up Centre: There is a start-up centre at RWTH Aachen to support students interested in starting a business. As part of the start-up region of Aachen, the start-up centre supports not only the start-up culture at RWTH Aachen University but also students interested in start-ups. Start-up advice and support: In addition to the start-up centre, the Entrepreneurship Chair, Chair of Economics for Engineers and Natural Scientists was established.

Other special features

The Bachelor´s degree programme is characterised in particular by a high level of technical basics, the scope of which also creates the basis for a purely Engineering based Master´s degree programme.
