Special features regarding teaching in the bachelor's degree programme

The basic structure of our courses is agile. Necessary basic principles and core content are supplemented by pre-structured and self-compiled compulsory elective content. This makes it possible, in particular, to constantly adapt to current developments.

Special features regarding the international orientation

Thanks to the many contacts abroad and the intensive support of our foreign agents, every interested student can be offered an exchange place. Owing to a wide degree of freedom in the courses of study and the generous credit recognition practice, exchange semesters in practice do not extend the duration of studies. The department is also known throughout the university for its large number of exchange students from other universities.

Exchange universities for stay abroads

Dundalk Institute of Technology, Irland; Tallinn Technical University, Estland; Izmir Institute of Technology, Türkei; Ege-University, Türkei; UPM Madrid, Spanien; OsloMet, Norwegen; Via University College, Dänemark; University of Wisconsin System, USA; University of Massachusetts System, USA; Deutsch-Jordanische Universität (GJU), Jordanien.

Special features regarding the equipment

In the field of computer infrastructure, we have been relying on virtualisation for years, so that we can freely scale the requirements. For particularly intensive computational applications, for example, in the field of AI and Data Science, we provide special high-performance graphics card hardware. In the area where individuals supply their own computer hardware, we are increasingly relying on students to bring their own device, but still have computer rooms available. Our buildings are connected to a broadband network and the scientific network and have complete WiFi coverage.

Special features regarding research and development

Our research takes place at our institutes (II, IPA, ITI) and in the Competence Centre for Information Technologies (KITE). The focuses are "Digital Humanities" (II), "Practical Computer Science" (IPA) and "Technical Computer Science" (ITI). Members of th

Other special features

The THM is one of the largest technical universities in Germany, the "MNI" department is the largest department of the THM. This results in an extremely broad range of specialist and interdisciplinary services. The BSc programme in Social Media Systems was the first degree course in Germany to combine IT with management and media/communication sciences or design and brings humanities aspects to all our courses of study. Due to the semester mode of operation, a flexible start and an individual time organisation of all our courses of study is possible.
