Special features regarding teaching in the bachelor's degree programme

The curriculum relies heavily on problem- and project-related teaching of students with the involvement of industry. In addition to an integrated practical semester, students spend one semester at the university working exclusively on a given project, without classroom-style teaching, which is supervised by the professor together with a partner in the industry. In addition, we offer a very wide range of elective modules, which allows students to design their own individual specialisation.

Special features regarding teaching in the master's programmes

The curriculum relies heavily on problem- and project-related teaching of students with the involvement of industry. The curriculum includes a project at the university in which the students work on a task under the supervision of professors together with a partner in the industry. In addition, we offer a very wide range of elective modules, which allows students to design their own individual specialisation.

Special features regarding the international orientation

In addition to the option of completing the practical study semester module (one semester, ; 30 ECTS) abroad (with the support of our International Office, not only in bureaucratic matters such as visas or accommodations), there is the possibility of completing coursework at a foreign university and having this work recognised upon returning to the University of Mannheim. This requires prior consultation with the faculty's international representative.

Exchange universities for stay abroads

Università di Bologna, Bologna (Italien); Memorial University of Newfoundland, St. John's (Kanada); Universidad de las Américas Puebla (UDLAP), Puebla (Mexiko); University of Wroclaw Wroclaw, Wroclaw (Polen); Moscow State University of Railway Engineering (MIIT), Moskau (Russland); Université Internationale de Tunis (UIT), Tunis (Tunesien); Fraunhofer Center for Software Engineering, Maryland College Park (USA).

Special features regarding the equipment

In addition to in-person resources, the university library offers students free access to a wide range of e-books, e-journals and databases. The inno.space offers rooms for teamwork, making, prototyping and digital developments in an inspiring and open atmosphere. In these rooms, students have access to devices such as 3D printers and laser cutters, which creates the necessary conditions for solving complex problems in the real world. The faculty offers students their own study space and modern computer equipment in the computer rooms.

Special features regarding research and development

Consequences of Artificial Intelligence in Urban Societies (CAIUS), topic: investigation of AI systems in simulated environments; Variable Detection, Interlinking and Summarization (VADIS), topic: Development of scientific survey data and the associated s

Other special features

In addition to the student council and the student union executive committee (AStA), students of the faculty can also turn to two liaison lecturers for general advice, or assistance in the event of problems. The university has a sustainability officer to promote existing initiatives, increase awareness of the topic of sustainability at the university and strengthen communication. In the Forum for Sustainability, numerous activists have joined forces to drive the topic forward at the university.
