Special features regarding teaching in the bachelor's degree programme

MatZe Centre with mathematics workshops for intensive support of students in the initial study phase (advice, courses on special topics, e-learning); Continuous tutorials and small exercise groups.

Special features regarding the international orientation

The department has strong global connections through a series of internationally coordinated research projects and therefore offers students in the final phase of their Bachelor's degree as well as Master's degree students the opportunity to participate in international collaborations. In the Erasmus exchange, 17 partner universities are open to outgoing students.

Special features regarding the equipment

The department has generously equipped Linux PC clusters for students. They are available to students from the beginning of their studies. All offices are equipped with workstations, PCs or Thin-Clients in accordance with the academic workstation programme. Additional local computing resources are available in the university's Centre for Information and Media Processing (ZIM) and in the Computer Lab for Parallel Algorithms and Stochastic Simulations (COMPASS) of the Interdisciplinary Centre for Applied Informatics and Scientific Computing (IZ II).

Special features regarding research activities

Research in the Pure and Applied Mathematics groups (Algebra/Number Theory, Analysis, Topology, Stochastics, Optimisation, Scientific Computing) and History and Didactics of Mathematics; many third-party funded projects (including a Collaborative Research Centre and ETN networks); Interdisciplinary cooperations, including Research Centre Jülich and international partners.
