B.Sc. in mathematics with the option of a content-related specialisation through fields of study; Very good teacher-student ratio, individual support; Determine field of study after three semesters (high degree of flexibility); Regular survey of students on the quality of teaching; High proportion of applied mathematics; One of the few locations in Germany offering a master's in statistics; The BA in Applied Statistics is a joint degree programme with the Magdeburg-Stendal University of Applied Sciences; Career-Orientated Practical; lecture series; The BA in Mathematical Engineering has an equal amount of mathematics and technology.

Special features regarding the equipment

WiFi on campus; Online access to scientific literature (e-books, electronic journals) and to the university library's mathematical reference database MathSciNet on campus and from home; In addition to central computer labs, there are 2 faculty-dedicated computer labs, one with 20 and the other with 5 workstations, where subject-specific software such as Magma, Maple, MATLAB, R and SPSS are available; Mathematical software also accessible from home. Students can borrow laptops if needed.

Special features regarding research activities

At the faculty, research is carried out in cooperation with many international partners. The faculty is very successful in attracting national and international third-party funding. Interested students are included in research projects at an early stage. There are numerous doctoral opportunities, for example in the DFG Research Training Group MathCoRe. The faculty cooperates closely with non-university research institutions in Magdeburg such as the Max Planck Institute for Dynamics of Complex Technical Systems and the Leibniz Institute for Neurobiology.

Other special features

For freshers, there are also additional guidance and support services from MatheSupport (students in later semesters are available every day as contacts to deal with subject-specific questions relating to the courses) and a mentoring programme for freshers (student initiative of the departmental student organisation). "What is ... ": Seminar in which scientists explain basic terms and phrases from their special field. "Eigenraum": a mathematics podcast and a math lab for experimentation
