Special features regarding teaching in the bachelor's degree programme

New forms of teaching that are based on teamwork: The team project is a form of teaching where the students work on a specific, practice-related and/or research-related task in supervised groups. At least one team project in the course, and more team projects are possible; Links to practice and closeness to research work by means of subject-specific "team projects" in each area of Business and Computer Science, with sample topics: IoT developments and test environments, design and development of ERP modules, deep learning applications, search or data mining functions, analyses of social networks and customer preferences.

Special features regarding the international orientation

The department offers two dual-degree programmes. For the Bachelor’s, there is a dual-degree programme with the FDIBA at the Technical University of Sofia (Bulgaria). Students can take modules that are identical to those offered by the faculty. For the Master’s, there is a dual-degree programme with the institute SIIHT in Thailand. Furthermore, the department has a specific position for Coordinator of International Study.

Special features regarding the equipment

Building newly renovated/modernised for the faculty; More than 25 computer labs; SAP University Competence Centre (UCC) at the faculty; modern lecture theatres and seminar rooms; Connection to the German Research Network (DFN) with 10 GBit/sec (fibre optics); All servers are connected to the campus with a 1G or 10G connection and, depending on the service, to the corresponding private networks of FIN; Wide variety of software systems; WiFi coverage and access points everywhere, even outside the buildings ("FIN outside"); All laboratories are connected with at least two 10G fibre optic cables and four 1G copper cables.

Special features regarding research activities

Research at the faculty is integrated across faculties in research centres and focal points for transfer (in cooperation with Neuroscience, Digital Engineering, Automotive) as well as in three faculty research focal points (Image, Knowledge, Interaction). Companies such as IBM, SAP, T-Systems, Bridging-IT and Fujitsu work with the MRCC (Magdeburg Research and Competence Cluster for Very Large Business Applications) here. Research is combined with teaching.

Other special features

Smart boards; Laboratory for land and air robotics; Landesdemonstrationszentrum für Schul-IT (state demonstration centre for school IT) (close cooperation with the degree course Media Education at the Faculty of Human Sciences); 24-hour access to the building and laboratories; Business Information Systems is part of the Faculty of Computer Science; The faculty sees itself as a faculty of engineering. The largest SAP University Competence Centre (SAP UCC) in the world is at the Faculty of Computer and is the basis for research and development on business applications; student participation through team projects.
