Special features regarding teaching in the bachelor's degree programme

Chemnitz offers good support, with small groups and taking account of individual needs. The Faculty of Mathematics has extensive Erasmus partnerships and a partnership with Ben Gurion University of the Negev (Israel). Close contact with students and discussions as equals create an excellent climate.

The Faculty of Mathematics maintains extensive Erasmus partnerships as well as a partnership with Ben Gurion University of the Negev (Israel). The academics in our department are active in countries on all continents.

Special features regarding the equipment

The Faculty of Mathematics has generous and modern, well-equipped computer rooms and a wide range of software. The WiFi coverage of the uni network covers the entire campus. Teaching takes place in modern lecture theatres and seminar rooms, which contain – in addition to modern electronic teaching aids (such as projection screens, projectors, sound systems) – the large boards necessary for lively Mathematics lectures.

Special features regarding research activities

Our faculty has a wide variety of research interests, from fundamentals to applications. This also explicitly includes our young scientists. Many of our graduates have started an internationally respected scientific career at our faculty. The key research areas of the Faculty of Mathematics are: algebra and geometry, analysis and PDE, numerics and scientific computing, stochastics, and optimisation.

Other special features

The faculty offers the Lern|RAUM mathematics room for joint learning outside of courses, but which is still supported by tutors. The linking of theory and practice is supported by excursions. The good rapport between teaching staff and students is regularly maintained through joint leisure events, such as summer BBQs and Christmas lectures. For students, there is a wide range of positions as scientific assistants. Numerous student clubs and student initiatives provide a wide range of cultural activities.
