Special features regarding teaching in the bachelor's degree programme

The exercise groups are led by research assistants (doctoral students and post-docs) as well as highly committed master's students, resulting in a higher quality of support than at many other locations. Ability to switch courses easily in the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (e.g. computer science, physics)

Special features regarding teaching in the master's programmes

Close support in smaller, specialised courses. Within the framework of the DFG Research Training Group GRK 2240 "Algebro-Geometric Methods in Algebra, Arithmetic and Topology" and GRK 2623 "Biostatistical Methods for High-Dimensional Data in Toxicology", there are good opportunities for an introduction to research problems, for example, for students subsequently completing a doctoral degree.

Special features regarding the international orientation

ERASMUS programme.; Some English-language courses (by arrangement); University-wide exchange programme with universities in China, Iran, Israel, Japan, USA; The courses offered within the framework of the Research Training Group GRK 2240 "Algebro-Geometric Methods in Algebra, Arithmetic and Topology" are taught in English because it has many international doctoral students.

Exchange universities for stay abroads

Université de Liège, Liège, Belgien; Université de Nantes, Nantes, Frankreich; Université Paris Diderot, Paris, Frankreich; Panthéon Sorbonne, Paris, Frankreich; Università degli Studi di Ferrara, Ferrara, Italien; Università degli Studi di Padova, Padua, Italien; Universidad de Sevilla, Sevilla, Spanien; Universidad de la Laguna, San Cristóbal de La Laguna, Spanien (Teneriffa); Gebze Yüksek Teknoloji Enstitüsü, Gebze, Türkei; Karamanoğlu Mehmetbey Üniversitesi, Karaman, Türkei.

Special features regarding the equipment

Small offices in the Mathematics Institute are provided to especially dedicated students for the purpose of writing their the Master's thesis.

Special features regarding research activities

In the DFG-funded Research Training Group 2240 "Algebro-Geometric Methods in Algebra, Arithmetic and Topology", doctoral candidates conduct research together with eleven project managers at the Düsseldorf and Wuppertal campuses in an intensive structured programme. The Mathematical Institute is also involved in the Dortmund Research Training Group 2623 "Biostatistical Methods for High-Dimensional Data in Toxicology".

Other special features

The diversity portal of the HHU has a variety of offers/information (e.g. diversity prize, queer university group, "toilets for all", inclusion officer for students with severe disabilities, quite room, ...)
