Special features regarding teaching in the bachelor's degree programme

General basic education, followed by a very broad range of highly topical mathematics areas as compulsory elective; Material is taught through a combination of lectures, tutorials and seminars; Exercises are interactive and collaborative (group work); Exercise group leaders are trained and supervised on the basis of university teaching principles; modern seminar rooms with whiteboards and projectors; Use of digital learning opportunities with learning platform Moodle for optimal individual support; Research on the basis of university teaching principles during the initial study phase; various support offers.

Special features regarding teaching in the master's programmes

Broad range of highly topical mathematical areas as compulsory elective modules; Research-based teaching.; Material is taught through a combination of lectures, tutorials and seminars; Exercises are interactive and collaborative (group work); Exercise group leaders are trained and supervised on the basis of university teaching principles; modern seminar rooms with whiteboards and projectors; Use of digital learning opportunities with learning platform Moodle for optimal individual support

Special features regarding the international orientation

Highly international faculty, wide range of partner universities for stays abroad, individual support in "free mover" exchanges, assistance with transferring credits before starting a stay abroad, peer mentoring programme for international students, different options for the language of instruction in advanced modules.

Exchange universities for stay abroads

Universitat de Barcelona, Spanien; University of Bergen, Norwegen; University of Durham, Großbritannien; Université de Rouen, Frankreich; Università di Pisa, Italien; Università degli Studi di Padova, Italien; Nikolaus-Kopernikus University Torun, Polen; Université de Neuchâtel, Schweiz; University of Stockholm, Schweden.

Special features regarding the equipment

Computer rooms with modern equipment and an adequate numbers of workstations for corresponding courses such as computing practicals for introductory and advanced courses; seminar rooms with modern equipment, projectors and whiteboards.; Digital learning resources on the Moodle platform facilitate optimal individual student support; Access to a wide range of digital journal databases.

Special features regarding research activities

The faculty is strong in research and diverse research areas are represented, with special emphasis on geometry, symplectic structures, mathematical statistics, and stochastics.; Clusters of Excellence and participation in several research associations (e.g. Collaborative Research Centres).; As a result, students are very quickly introduced to current research topics. The research spectrum of the faculty is expanded and further developed through the establishment of professorships and junior professorships on current topics.

Other special features

Cooperation with the Max Planck Institute for Security and Privacy, industry partnerships; Service Centre Mathematics and Applications (SZMA) as the central contact point for all questions regarding mathematics at other faculties; Internal and non-university statistical guidance; active exchange with Applied Mathematics departments through research topics, but also contents and methods of mathematics courses for non-mathematics students; Floer Centre; HDM@RUB Centre for University Didactics of Mathematics.
