Special features regarding teaching in the bachelor's degree programme

In addition to a solid classical education in mathematics, many courses with a focus on algorithmics are offered. These courses relate to the research interests of the professors of the department and also offer the opportunity to learn applications of mathematics.

Special features regarding teaching in the master's programmes

This allows students to strengthen their skills gained in the Bachelor degree programme and thus the departmental focus on algorithmics is also further strengthened. Teaching in the Master's degree programme offers very good training both for a future career in research and for entry into professional life after completing the Master's degree programme.

Special features regarding the international orientation

Bachelor's: A stay abroad starting with the fifth semester makes sense. Master's: Stays abroad can be at any time. The Erasmus programme at the BS University of Technology offers a wide range of opportunities for exchange with European universities. With the ISEP programme, students apply for stays at non-European universities. Master's degree students in Economics can apply for one-year stays at the University of Omaha and the University of Rhode Island with the possibility of obtaining an MBA.

Exchange universities for stay abroads

University of Oklahoma, USA; Universidad de la Frontera, Südamerika; Tallinn University of Technology, Estland; IMT Mine d\'Albi-Carmaux, Frankreich; Univerzita Pavla Jozefa Safarika v Kosiciach, Slowakei; Universidad de la Rioja, Spanien und Teilnahme am ISEP Programm möglich

Special features regarding the equipment

There are various institute libraries, and a university library that is open 7 days a week. The Mathematics department has its own computer rooms for students where courses are held, but the students can also work independently. In addition, there are several other computer pools at the university. Students have access to the central and important mathematics databases MathSciNet and zBMath electronic access to many journals.

Special features regarding research activities

The main areas of research in mathematics are wide-ranging; here, for example, research projects in areas such as analysis, computer algebra, data science, numerics, optimisation, stochastics and their applications are offered in and outside of the Mathematics department. There are various research cooperations with companies in the vicinity of the university.

Other special features

Cooperation with other German and international educational institutions; Mathe-Lok: programmes for teachers/ school students, e.g. project days, work groups, continuing education courses for teachers; Early studies programme (bachelor) for school students, diversity/mentoring
