Special features regarding teaching in the bachelor's degree programme

Students can opt for a broad basic education when completing the bachelor's degree in Computer Science, or choose one of the following specialisations: Aerospace Informatics, Games Engineering, Human Computer Systems, Computer Science and Sustainability as well as Artificial Intelligence and Data Science.

Special features regarding the international orientation

With the Master in Space Science and Technology, the department offers a completely English-language degree programme in cooperation with European partner universities that is funded by the EU as a part of the Erasmus Mundus programme. The department runs numerous summer and winter schools, in particular, with international participants.

Special features regarding the equipment

Modern institute building with two large lecture theatres (each with 350 places), a number of seminar rooms and practical rooms (with 20 and 50 places), numerous seating groups in the atrium (for group work), three modern computer rooms which are accessible at any time during the building's opening hours. Further special facilities: Robotics hall, v-mobile robots, v-KUKA robots, v-flight lab, flight simulator, antennae for communication with the department's own Pico-Satellites (UWE), immersive large-scale displays (large projection screens, CAVEs), tracking systems for recording movement, roomscale VR, high-performance computing cluster.

Special features regarding research activities

The institute has been grouped into four main areas of research: Computing, Systems and Networks; Data Science and Artificial Intelligence; Aerospace and Robotics; Human-Centred Computing. In 2020, the Centre for Artificial Intelligence and Data Science (CAIDAS) was founded as a central institution of the University of Würzburg. In the coming months and years, it will grow to a size of 20 to 30 chairs, professorships and research groups.

Other special features

The department has its own degree course in computer science and sustainability, and interdisciplinary sustainability events from the fields of geography and biology.
