Special features regarding teaching in the bachelor's degree programme

The mathematics professional profile offers a thorough undergraduate bachelor's degree programme in mathematics. As a result, bachelor's degree students can choose a specialisation in later semesters based on their interests and thus optimally prepare for a subsequent master's degree or a career. Stays abroad are actively supported through, among other things, a mobility window in the degree programme and individual counselling/support in the Mathematics Department.

Special features regarding teaching in the master's programmes

Our very international degree programmes are taught entirely in English. We offer a broad range of basic and advanced lectures in a wide variety of areas. The Mathematical Finance and Actuarial Science degree programme allows students to complete several modules of the actuarial training provided by the German Actuarial Association (DAV) during their course of studies. Stays abroad are actively supported through, among other things, mobility windows in the degree programmes and individual counselling/support in the Mathematics Department.

Special features regarding the international orientation

Activities: Two speakers for international matters (outgoing/incoming) = comprehensive counselling and advice; Administrative procedures coordinated with studies abroad (special exams in the event of semester overlap, mobility windows in all degree courses); All Master's degree programmes taught in English.; Scholarships for outstanding students from abroad; John von Neumann Professorship: Outstanding international visiting professors; Blended Intensive Programs(BIP) as part of the EuroTeQ course offerings; Result: Highest Erasmus exchange numbers (in/out) according to the DAAD; Increase in the number of international students.

Exchange universities for stay abroads

University of Toronto, Kanada; Georgia Institute of Technology, USA; Copenhagen University, Dänemark; National University of Singapore, Singapur; HKUST, Hong Kong; Queensland University, Australien; KTH Stockholm, Schweden; Sorbonne Université, Ecole Polytechnique, Frankreich; Ecole polytechnique fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL), Schweiz

Special features regarding the equipment

Top modern IT equipment: Video transmissions between all major lecture halls; Comprehensive WiFi network in all buildings; Sockets for charging laptops in the large lecture halls and under the tables in the main thoroughfares of Mathematics/Computer Science facilities; Online library access; Info screens for quick information of students; Interdisciplinary research campus with over 13,000 students from different subject areas; Our building offers students an exciting and creative environment, for instance, we have the largest parabola slide in the world and one of the most modern trading simulation rooms in the world.

Special features regarding research activities

The Mathematics Department at the TU München is one of the leading and most modern Mathematics institutes in Europe. Logistics: The whole range of Applied Mathematics with particular focus on Numerics, Mathematical Physics, Optimisation, Biomathematics, Stochastics, Financial Mathematics, Visualisation and Data Sciences. Strong networking in Munich economics and business; Numerous research awards and funding. National and international third-party funded projects with partner universities. We promote student research.

Other special features

High number of international students in the Master's programme (currently 50%). Support/advice for this target group in the onboarding phase by the international student advisor, introductory events, get-together opportunities. Special German courses: "German matters" programme with intercultural training and mentoring. Peer-to-peer mentoring programmes: Master's mentoring programme, buddy programme.
